GLANBIA FOODS TO HOLD 14th ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
LARGEST CHARITY EVENT IN THE MAGIC VALLEY RAISES $90,650
TWIN FALLS, ID – August 29, 2007 -- With the primary goal to raise over $80,000 for local charities, Glanbia Foods hosted their 14th Annual Charity Challenge Golf Tournament in August at Blue Lakes Country Club. Over 190 golfers from around the country played in the tournament, fully underwritten by Glanbia Foods.
“Our first tournament was held in 1994 as a way to help raise money to support local charities in the Magic Valley,” said Jeff Williams, president and chief executive officer of Glanbia Foods. “Since then, we have raised over three quarters of a million dollars which has been given to over 20 local charities. Thanks to the generous support of this year’s tournament participants, we’re proud to give $90,650 to four local organizations,” he said.
Glanbia selected the following charities to receive these funds:
- Crisis Center of Magic Valley - $40,650
- Idaho Sheriffs' Meth Project - $25,000
- Twin Falls Public Library - $20,000
- American Cancer Society Relay for Life Fund -- $5,000
“Our goal in holding this annual tournament is to directly and significantly assist Magic Valley charities who in turn support our residents in various ways,” Williams said. “This year’s tournament marks the largest amount we have ever raised. We hope to raise even more next year.”
The Crisis Center of the Magic Valley provides supportive services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Glanbia’s funds will be used to repair the shelter’s facility and general operations.
The Idaho Sheriff's Association will be using these funds to help promote the Idaho Meth Project.
Twin Falls Public Library will direct Glanbia’s funds to build a separate, teen appropriate, Young Adult area in the library
American Cancer Society Relay for Life is an overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of your American Cancer Society. Glanbia’s funds will help further their Relay fundraising efforts.
